Travel Guide: Salt Lake City, Utah

Back again my friends to share with you another destination from my travels, Salt Lake City! This past weekend I ventured out West to this part of the country I have never visited nor ever really thought I would! "I'm in love with cities I've never been to and people I've never met"- John Green.

To be honest I mainly wanted to visit this city because as a child brought up in the 90s I absolutely loved watching basketball (believe it or not).  For some inexplicable reason I was in love with Carl Malone and the Utah Jazz! I mean they were total superstars, right?

First, let me start by saying I never actually laid my eyes on THE salt lake but I did have a front row seat to some of the most beautiful mountains and scenery. In, my opinion this area is truly for those visitors who really enjoy the outdoors! I'm talking all the outdoor things like hiking, biking, climbing, and because the list of to dos is pretty much endless.  Since being the "outdoorsy" type isn't quite my forte I wanted to share that if you're like me there's still dos for you!

Things To Do

Temple Square- So beautiful! No matter you're religious beliefs you can surely enjoy this place on your visit. There is no admission and a plethora of things to do such as tours and exhibits. I spent some time just walking around the gardens and admiring the architecture.

Park City, Utah- I'll cover darling city in a separate post but wanted to include because its just a short drive away from Salt Lake City proper.  Restaurants, resorts, bars, boutiques...ahhhhh A must see!

Hiking- Again not my forte but from what I'm told there are many many trails in the area to conquer. Although I didn't partake I got many recommendations for Ensign Peak and Donut Falls.

Eat

Red Iguana This place was beyond words! I read over and over that this was the restaurant to get to while visiting Salt Lake City and the best Mexican food I've had.  Definitely worth the hype.  I went during lunch time and had a short wait but I've heard reports that it can be quite lengthy during dinner hours.

Sweet Lake Biscuits and Limeade The most delicious brunch! You won't regret stopping by here for the biscuits if nothing else.  My southern soul screamed a little on the inside enjoying my meal.  Give me all the biscuits!

Do It For The Gram

Ok let's be real! Some things you do just because well, it's going on Instagram.  Aside from my obsession with the Utah Jazz of my childhood I was dead set on finding some cool local art and murals.  There are several across the city but I wanted this one most of all.  I mean really how cool is it?  Located on the building right next to the Moose Lounge in downtown Salt Lake.  Get that pic peeps, do it for the 'gram!

Always,

Ashlei
